Una Secures Grant For Caring For The Pride Tornado Relief Fund

FLORENCE, Ala. - The 江南体育 this morning announced a grant of $15,000 through the Disaster Relief Fund for Postsecondary Education Students. The grant is part of UNA's Caring for the Pride initiative, a relief effort for students and prospective students impacted by the April 27 tornadoes.

"Students throughout the north Alabama region lost much to the tragic storms last spring. Through the Caring for the Pride relief effort, we're trying to ensure that their college education isn't among those losses," said Dr. William G. Cale Jr., UNA president. "This opportunity through the Disaster Relief Fund will enable us to make an even deeper impact for these students." Sarah Paige Holmes, UNA's first recipient of funding from the grant, lost her home in Hackleburg April 27. She is transferring from Bevill State Community College to major in social work. The Disaster Relief Fund for Postsecondary Students is funded by USA Funds and administered by Scholarship America. The grant awarded to UNA is for the maximum amount allowed under the grant guidelines established by Scholarship America. Assistance from the grant may be applied toward education-related expenses incurred by effected students in the 2010-11 or 2011-12 academic years.
